Senator Maura Hopkins has reminded local sports clubs and organisations that the closing date for applications for Sports Capital Programme 2018 is this Friday, October 19th at 5pm.

Senator Hopkins stated that Minister for Sport, Brendan Griffin T.D. has confirmed that €40 million is to be made available under the Sports Capital Programme in 2018. Applications can be made online until 5pm on Friday 19th October 2018.

“Our sports clubs and organisations do great work in promoting physical activity and encouraging healthy lifestyles.  It is vital that we continue to support them in the excellent work they do.”

“There are a number of significant changes in assessment methods being introduced in 2018 following a detailed review of the 2017 round of the Sports Capital Programme in order to reduce the number of invalid applications. Greater priority will be given to applications from disadvantaged areas and projects that promote the sharing of sports facilities with other clubs and the wider community. All schools will be now able to avail of the Sports Capital Grant Scheme as long as they do so in conjunction with a sports club.”

“The programme funds natural grass sports pitches, tracks and courts (including pitch drainage), floodlighting, artificial sports pitches, tracks, courts and multi-use games areas, security fencing, ball-stop netting and goal posts, hurling walls / handball alleys, building or refurbishment of dressing rooms, showers and toilets, building or refurbishment of sports halls and gyms, non-personal equipment including lawn mowers and defibrillators and any other capital projects that are clearly sporting in nature and that will increase participation in sport or improve performance.”

Senator Hopkins concluded, ” Many clubs and organisations in this region have been very successful in securing funding under previous the Sports Capital Programmes. I would encourage all clubs and organisations to consider applying for Sports Capital Grant in order to further develop their facilities”.
