Senator Maura Hopkins has said that the provision of €1.6 million in additional funding for storm damaged roads is very positive news across Roscommon and Galway.

Senator Hopkin stated, “Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross T.D. has informed me that he is making available an additional €1.1 million for roads across Co. Galway and €501,000 for roads across Co. Roscommon.”

“Many local and regional roads right across this region have suffered significant damage due to the number of extreme weather events that we have experienced in recent months.”

“I am very pleased that this additional funding is being made available for road repairs before the end of the year. I receive many calls on a weekly basis about the poor state of our roads due to both under investment in recent years and the severe weather we have experienced.”

“This investment will improve the quality of many of our routeways and will make our roads safer for all users.”

Senator Hopkins concluded, “I continue to lobby for increased investment in our roads network locally. This funding is a very welcome boost and I will be continuing to work with Minister Ross to secure further announcements for local roads investment.”
