€50,000 is to be provided to Mountbellew Community Childcare Limited in order to increase capacity in childcare services in the region, Senator Maura Hopkins has said.
Galway Roscommon Senator Maura Hopkins stated, “My colleague, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Katherine Zappone T.D. has informed me that she is making these funds available for Mountbellew Community Childcare under the Early Learning and School Age Capital Scheme.”
“This funding is being provided for early learning with the creation of new places for babies and toddlers up to three years of age. It will allow for an expansion of the current centre to create greater capacity.”
She continued, “I know that this announcement will be very welcome right across East Galway as this is an issue on which I have received many calls and emails from people. I have been working hard on this issue and have emphasised strongly to Minister Zappone the need for this funding to be provided.”
“It is crucial that we continue to support working families. Access to childcare has been an issue for many families in this area. Investments such as for Mountbellew is part of a €6.25 million investment nationally which will help to ease that pressure.”
Senator Hopkins concluded, “While this capital investment is very welcome, it is important that we see further movement on pay and conditions for those employed in the early years sector. This is an issue which I will be continuing to raise with Minister Zappone.”
