€94,809 is to be provided to three childcare providers in Co. to increase capacity in childcare services in the region, Senator Maura Hopkins has said.

Roscommon Galway Senator Maura Hopkins stated, “My colleague, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Katherine Zappone T.D. has informed me that she is making these funds available under the Early Learning and School Age Capital Scheme.”

“Rooskey Community Company is to receive €70,000, Strokestown Community Play Group is to receive €9,905 and Croghan Fairy Bush Company is to receive €4,904. I know that this announcement will be very welcome right across Co. Roscommon as this is an issue on which I have received many calls and emails.”

“I have been emphasising to Minister Zappone, the need for greater capital investment in childcare across the region. I am very pleased that she is now making these funds available. It is crucial that we continue to support working families. Access to childcare has been an issue for many families but I hope that investments such as this one for the County as part of a €6.25 million investment nationally will help to ease that pressure.”

Senator Hopkins concluded, “While this capital investment is very welcome, it is important that we see further movement on pay and conditions for those employed in the early years sector. This is an issue which I will be continuing to raise with Minister Zappone.”
