Minister for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin T.D. visited the Galway Roscommon constituency last week (Wednesday May 12th) at the invitation of local Senator Maura Hopkins.

Following the visit, Senator Hopkins stated, “I was very pleased that Minister Griffin was able to accept my invitation to visit the Constituency and meet with a number of the clubs and organisations across the region who have benefitted from sports capital funding in the past.”

“This Government has delivered significant investment to clubs locally under the Sports Capital Programme. It was great that Minister Griffin had the opportunity to visit some of those and see first hand the positive impact that these investments have had.”

“In recent weeks we have seen equipment grants awarded to those who applied under the 2018 Programme. It is anticipated that further allocations of larger scale capital works grants will take place in the Autumn.”

“Minister Griffin has informed me that it is his intention now to ensure that the Sports Capital Programme will run on an annual basis. This will create greater certainty for sports clubs and organisations and will allow them to plan on a more long term basis for investment in capital works.”

Senator Hopkins concluded, “I continue to work closely with Minister Griffin to secure funds for clubs across this region who have applied for funding under the 2018 Sports Capital Programme. I would encourage clubs to begin preparing their applications for the 2019 round of funding which will open later this year.”
