Senator Maura Hopkins has called on the IDA to do much more for Co. Roscommon, following a meeting she had this week with IDA officials.
Raising the matter in the Seanad, Senator Hopkins stated, “To date this year, there have not been any visits to Co. Roscommon by IDA client companies. This is simply not acceptable, and it is very apparent that not enough is being done to prioritise investment in the county.
“From my meeting with the IDA, it was very clear that there is a lack of priority regarding job creation in Co. Roscommon. I am not satisfied that the IDA has demonstrated adequate evidence of their work with client companies across our region.”
“It is very positive that our regional urban centres are performing, however, it is not good enough for IDA West to stimulate job creation in Galway City only.”
“A greater balance in job creation must be achieved. We know that the IDA Business Park at Parkmore in Galway is at capacity. However, at the IDA Business Park in Roscommon Town there are 11 acres of available space.”
Senator Hopkins concluded, “I have emphasised strongly to An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar T.D. and Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphrey’s T.D. and Minister of State, Pat Breen T.D., that the IDA needs to do more to prioritise job creation in our region.”
