Projects in Roscommon/Galway Constituency included in 2019 – 2021 HSE Capital Plan
  • Portiuncula – Ward block, Fire Safety Works and Lift Replacement Programme;
  • Completion of two new houses for those with an intellectual disability in Ballinasloe;
  • New Rehabilitation Unit at Roscommon Hospital (with support of NRH);
  • Sacred Heart Community Nursing Unit upgrade (50 beds);
The HSE Capital Plan is being published by An Taoiseach, Minister Simon Harris and Minister Paschal Donohue today (Monday 2nd September 2019).  This Capital Plan provides for the spending of just over €2 billion on health capital projects from 2019 to 2021.

Senator Maura Hopkins stated “I am delighted that the 50 bedded replacement unit at Portiuncula Hospital has been included under the new HSE Capital Plan 2019 – 2021.  This is a project which I have been working on for a number of years along with former Senator Michael Mullins, Dr. John Barton and Hospital Management.”

“These works will include the replacement 50 bedded ward block, fire safety works and lift replacement programme.”

“We know that the current ward block is simply not fit for purpose and this project is extremely important to improve conditions for patients and staff at the hospital. As a healthcare professional myself, I have emphasised the need for delivery of this critical project to both Minister Harris and the Taoiseach on a continuous basis.”

“Also included within the capital plan is the completion of two new houses for those with an intellectual disability in Ballinasloe.”

Senator Hopkins continued, “it is also positive that the 50 bedded upgrade unit at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Roscommon Town along with the 20 bedded specialist rehabilitation unit at Roscommon Hospital will continue to progress under this new HSE Capital Plan. It is essential that both of these projects are delivered in order to cater for our older population and those who need access to timely and specialist rehabilitation.”

Senator Hopkins concluded, “I have invested a large amount of energy and time in progressing these projects.  I will continue to maintain my focus on ensuring we see all of these vital projects completed as quickly as possible.”
