Speaking after the announcement of the winners in the Tidy Towns competition, Senator Maura Hopkins stated, “I want to congratulate all those across County Roscommon and East Galway on their achievements. It is great to see that our Tidy Towns committees, who work tirelessly throughout the year to improve their local surroundings, have been recognised for the work they do.”
“Right across the county, the work of tidy towns committees gives a very positive lift to our communities. So many volunteers give so much energy, time and commitment to ensuring that our villages and towns look well and have given residents a real sense of pride of place. It is great to see villages and towns making further improvements and this is evident again this year through the increased marks they received in the competition.”
“My colleague the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring T.D., has announced a special allocation of €1.4 million to support the work of Individual Tidy Towns Committees around the country. This is the third year that Minister Ring has allocated this funding to support the work of the Tidy Towns and I urge all Tidy Towns Committees to apply so that they can avail of this support to enhance their towns and villages.”
Senator Hopkins concluded, “Having been involved with Tidy Towns locally for many years, I am very aware of the continuing need for more volunteers. I would encourage anyone who may be interested in giving back to their community, to get involved with Tidy Towns.”
