Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring T.D. visited Athleague on Saturday 21st September last to launch the Athleague Community and Economic Plan.
Speaking after the launch Senator Hopkins stated, “I was delighted that Minister Ring accepted my invitation on behalf of the community to visit the village and perform this important launch.”
“A significant amount of time, effort and hard work has been completed by all involved to develop this plan. It focusses on four main aspects of development which are physical infrastructure improvements; developing business opportunities, capitalising on the tourism potential of the area and community engagement.”
“A significant amount of work has been completed on improving the streetscape in the village. This was made possible through funding of €100,000 last year, approved by Minister Ring under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme along with assistance from Roscommon County Council.”
“It is great to see the community working closely together, they are proud of their area and ambitious for the future of the village. This plan has practical and realistic objectives which will benefit the village.”
Senator Hopkins concluded, “These future plans will require further funding and I will continue to work closely with the community, Roscommon County Council and Minister Ring to help secure these projects.”
